09 / 2D "FLEXIBLE FLANNERY" [07.08.2007]

COMMENT: Standard bidding has no effective sequence for minimum hands [11-15 HC] with 4 Spades and 5 Hearts. "Flannery" was developed to deal with this specific problem. OMEGA's 2D "Flexible Flannery" has the same HC requirements [11-15 HC] -and- also allows other non-standard patterns which may include the following H / S patterns [5/4 6/4 5/5 (minimum hand w / 4-5 HC in each MAJOR)]. The use of "Flannery" leaves room for the 16+ HC with 4 Spades and 5 Hearts to be handled as a "Reverse". "Flannery" removes the need to respond 1S over 1H with a WEAK 4-Card suit. NOTE: 1S response to 1H does NOT require 5 Spades => ONLY GOOD Spades willing to be raised with 3 Trumps headed by A-or-K-or-Q.

  • REQUIRMENTS
    • 11-15 HC
    • 5 H / 4 S -or- 6 H / 4 S -or- [5 H / 5 S; minimum’ 4-5 HC in EACH MAJOR]

    • 2NT = Game Forcing; Inquires Opener's Hand Pattern

    • 4m = m SPLINTER
    • Others = Natural

"GAME TRY" COMMENT: OMEGA has specific seqences for "game tries" after "sign-off" response to Flannery Open. It is recommended that additional game tries should be avoided.

    • 3D = 5-4-3-1
    • 3H = 5-4-1-3
    • 3S = 4-6-(2-1); 4C Rebid asks Longer minor (4D = 2 D; 4H = 2 C)
