10 / 2MAJOR [11-14 HC] [08.02.2007]

COMMENT: OMEGA’s 2MAJOR [11-14 HC] follows the principle of all opening bids intended to be constructive - Neither destructive nor obstructive. Experience has demonstrated that a Weak 2Bid Open tends to encourage opponents to enter the bidding. Intermediate 2MAJOR allows ONE bid to describe a hand that otherwise would require TWO bids [Open 1MAJOR and minimum rebid same MAJOR = 6-CARDS]. In actual practice, OMEGA does not "lose" hands that would be a typical Weak 2Bid. Weak 2Bid hands can be introduced later in a competitive auction [usually by a Jump Overcall]. An immediate overcall by our passed hand at the 2-Level may very likely be a Weak 2Bid type hand. OMEGA’s 2MAJOR allows responder to make immediate Penalty X's -or- compete at the 3-Level safely [sometimes with only XX in the trump suit]. OMEGA’s 2MAJOR takes the initiative with complete description before opponents enter the bidding.
